And Peggy Noonan:
It also raises a distressing question: Who are the wise men and women now? Who are the Robert Lovetts, Chip Bohlens and Robert Strausses who can came in to help a president in trouble right his ship? America seems short of wise men, or short on those who are universally agreed to be wise. I suppose Vietnam was the end of that, but establishments exist for a reason, and it is hard for a great nation to function without the presence of a group of “the oldest and wisest” who can not only give sound advice but help engineer how that advice will be reported and received.
I suspect the biggest source of Noonan’s angst here is that she is not numbered among these “wise men and women…[who] help engineer how that advice will be reported and received.”
That’s just what we need - a bunch of big-headed MSM dead-tree journos to tell us (engineer our reporting and how we receive it) - and Obama - what to do.
I thought that was a big part of the reason we got the troublesome President Obama in the first place.

This Noonan essay has CYA written all over it. She was suckered by that smooth talker in the White House, and now is dimly realizing just how big a misjudgment she made.
But of course, this doesn’t mean those rabble-rousing, anti-elite proles at the Tea Parties are right about government being off in the weeds on everything! It just means the right sort of elites are not tendering their valuable, sober expertise. Why, if they did, things would be as right as rain!
That’s just stupid, and cements the delusional nature of the GOP elites such as Noonan. The grand meltdown is coming, and the so-called rabble rousers are the only ones trying to fight it. Noonan and her establishment Republican club, Obama and his leftist allies in government, academia, unions, and media are in denial and will remain that way until the pitchforks show up or the shooting starts.
