QUIN HILYER: “Conservatives need to take a deep breath, relax, and stop bashing Joseph Cao. The man never claimed to be a fully committed economic conservative. He represents a district that is about 75 percent Democrat and 62 percent black (or thereabouts).”
Really? Then explain to me what good it does GOP or conservative principles to elect Democrats who vote democrat but call themselves Republicans?
The other day Allahpundit said, as an aside (no, I can’t find it - I just spent 30 minutes looking), something like, “Imagine that Bill Owens wins in NY-23 (because of Doug Hoffman’s opposition) and then is the vote that passes Obamacare. Dude.”
Well, Imagine that Dede Scozzafava had won (as Allah seems to have preferred, rather than seeing her knocked off by a conservative insurgency), and she had been the deciding vote that passed Obamacare?
Dude, indeed.
I suspect the only “good” is that the GOP leadership sees Cao as a potential vote for their Congressional power mavens. But whether John Boehner or Mitch McConnell achieve their personal career goals is not especially important to me, especially if they are more than willing to sacrifice conservative principles on the altar of personal power. And that goes for any go-along, get-along GOP “leader.” Are you listening, Lindsey Graham?

Word.
From the article Glenn linked, Cao is nothing like Scozzafava. He is pro-life and anti-Communist; the implication of the article is that he is a social conservative, economical moderate, representing a very liberal district. Scozzafava was liberal socially and economically, running in a moderate to conservative district.
Since economic issues are what are important to me, I would not contribute to Cao; if there were someone better economically running, I’d vote for that candidate. But if Cao were running against another Scozzafava, it would be an easy choice to support him.
