NY-23 & 2012 - Kathryn Jean Lopez - The Corner on National Review Online
And in New York’s 23rd, he didn’t support the Republican who would drop out and endorse the Democrat, thereby throwing a political pie in the face of every Republican who had endorsed her. Romney stands out without pie on his face.
Stands out from whom, K-Lo? Maybe from the “pragmatic” establishment wing of the GOP, which leaped to endorse a Democrat, but not, you know, from the legion of actual conservatives and conservatarians who refused to endorse Scozzafava and instead chose to back Doug Hoffman.
Your attempts to paint Mittens’ actions in an intelligent and principled light are falling, um, as flat as his chances of getting a vote from me in 2012.

Establishment Republicans, both politicians and media, want Romney so bad they can taste it. Otherwise, they might actually have to face up to the risk and upheaval that come with genuine change.
With their football game mentality about backing the GOP, they really can’t bring themselves to the point where they declare “Enough! It’s time to roll back the welfare state!” Nope, they’ll be happy with someone like Romney, with his “let’s not grow those collectivist programs quite so fast - wouldn’t be prudent” Bush-like approach.
I can almost excuse the young leftists who don’t have a frakking clue what the end result of their stupid political philosophy would be. They’ve been indoctrinated for years, and it takes real strength of character to throw that off.
But these establishment GOP types are supposed to know how the world works. Do they think we can just keep growing government, debt, intrusiveness, and bureaucracy forever? No matter what the rate, that means meltdown. It’s time to fight for reversal and rolling back, and it’s clear most of them don’t have the gumption for it.
