The deal appeared to pay off in a big way last week, when the Energy Department announced $3.4 billion in smart grid grants. Of the total, more than $560 million went to utilities with which Silver Spring has contracts. Kleiner Perkins and its partners, including Mr. Gore, could recoup their investment many times over in coming years.
Silver Spring Networks is a foot soldier in the global green energy revolution Mr. Gore hopes to lead. Few people have been as vocal about the urgency of global warming and the need to reinvent the way the world produces and consumes energy. And few have put as much money behind their advocacy as Mr. Gore and are as well positioned to profit from this green transformation, if and when it comes.
Short translation: It’s all government boodle. This Silver Spring thing is only going to get megabucks because the government has decided to take money garnered by the threat of force from taxpayers and throw it in billions at “green” crap.
And who may have pulled a lever or two in order to get some of those boodlebucks thrown in Silver Springs’ direction?
“Do you think there is something wrong with being active in business in this country?” Mr. Gore said. “I am proud of it. I am proud of it.”
He’s not active in business. He’s active in graft. Of course, he’s just carrying on the family tradition of influence peddling.

I’ve maintained for a number of years that, while he may have taken a sip or two of his own Kool-Aid in the early days, the real “inconvenient truth” is that ol’ Algore, early-on, understood that “anthropogenic global warming” is just about entirely Algoregenic global bullshit.
It’s just his own worldwide con-game, perpetrated - and perpetuated - for the primary purposes of making him personally wealthy, powerful and widely-acclaimed. He’s been riding a rising wave of AGW hot-air puffery, aiming at cashing in on his created “crisis” by means of trading, worldwide, in carbon “credits” - and the wave is now cresting, paying off big-time, with Silver Spring Networks at the leading edge.
Of course he’s “proud of it” - he’s about to make Bernie Madoff look like a no-name, chump-change piker. Why would any con-man not be proud of becoming a billionaire - and a Nobel Prize receiver - by simply lying BIG with numbers, and having thousands of people applaud him for doing so?
