Beware The Reverse Brain Drain To India And China
Foreign-born workers comprise almost a quarter of all the U.S. science and engineering workforce and 47% of science and engineering workers who have PhDs. It is very possible that some of the smart Indians who sat in the room with me holding their hand up on Columbus Day will start the next Google or Apple. Many of them will build companies which employ thousands. But the jobs will be in Hyderbad or Pune, not Silicon Valley.
I have long said that the “job of America” is not to impose American-style liberty and representative republican democracy on the rest of the world, but to maintain ourselves as the “light of liberty” and, not incidentally, economic liberty and unprecedented wealth creation - a free America where the streets are paved with gold as evidence of the success of our system, in other words - but we have been failing miserably at that for quite a while. Finally, as was inevitable, our failures are being noticed - and acted upon.
But the key notion here is that these are our failures. It didn’t have to be this way.

Once the government became involved in schooling, it was inevitable. An unjust power will never keep from being abused, and once that happens, the worst sorts will flock to it, and we all know who the worst are.
