Michelle Malkin ยป Is Obama starving federal firearms program for pilots?
After the September 11 attacks, commercial airline pilots were allowed to carry guns if they completed a federal-safety program. No longer would unarmed pilots be defenseless as remorseless hijackers seized control of aircraft and rammed them into buildings.
Now President Obama is quietly ending the federal firearms program, risking public safety on airlines in the name of an anti-gun ideology.
My readers know that from the very beginning, immediately post 9/11, I have advocated hardening cockpits and arming pilots. The Bush administration was criminally slow to do this, and imposed needless roadblocks, and should bear a considerable amount of blame for the current state of vulnerability to hijacking and 9/11-style slaughter the average American air traveler experiences. But I entirely missed that the Obama administration had decided to end any effort to arm pilots entirely.
I have to wonder just what constituency or special interest group Hussein Obama thinks he is catering to with this move.
