Ridge Disagrees With Cheney’s Assertion on National Security - WSJ.com

Former Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge said he disagreed with former Vice President Dick Cheney’s assertion that the country is less safe under President Barack Obama’s administration.

Speaking on CNN’s “State of the Union with John King” Sunday, Mr. Ridge, a Republican, urged Mr. Obama to release in full any memos that shed light on whether harsh interrogations of suspected terrorists prevented additional attacks on the U.S. after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Mr. Obama has rejected such tactics, which some critics have described as torture, as being ineffectual, while Mr. Cheney has said they helped make the country safer.

Mr. Ridge said he does not believe the country is less safe because of any steps taken by Mr. Obama. “I disagree with Dick Cheney,” he said. He was referring to a speech the former vice president gave on Thursday in which he criticized some of the Obama administration’s national-security tactics and contended that measures taken by the Bush administration after the Sept. 11 attacks saved thousands of lives.

Give it time, Ridge. I suspect you may find yourself eating your words in the most horrific of ways one of these days.
