U.S. acts swiftly to contain swine flu outbreak | Reuters
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States declared a public health emergency on Sunday because of an outbreak of swine flu that has been diagnosed in 20 people in this country — the same strain suspected of killing 81 people in Mexico.
That headline is horseshit. We’re way past being able to “contain” this outbreak. Thanks to the medieval socialist government of Mexico, and our usual clueless national authorities, we were probably past any containment stage before we even heard about the outbreak.
Now they are “going to release stocks” of Tamiflu and Relenza. Let’s hope the mandarins who gave us public housing and homeland security can do a bit better at distributing this stuff than previous performance might suggest.
I expect the runs on pharmacies, groceries, and whatnot to start tomorrow.
