FDA eases access to morning-after pill | Health | Reuters
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Seventeen-year-olds will soon have access to emergency contraception without a prescription, U.S. health regulators said on Wednesday, complying with a court order to ease restrictions on over-the-counter sales of the so-called “morning-after” pill.
I don’t have any problem with this, but I’m sure lots of people will.
My response to them? If you don’t want to use it, don’t.

Well, my only problem with it is that the female in question won’t be legally old enough to buy a pack of smokes, will still need a prescription for the normal dose of hormones known as birth control pills, but won’t need a prescription for these pills. Seems a little… odd to me, considering that we have no idea what the possible long term side effects will be on the bodies of young women, assuming that the pill gets used several times.
Here’s a question that I honestly don’t know the answer to: can’t you get more or less the same effect from taking a bunch of regular birth control bills the morning after? Seems to me that the effect would be almost identical.
Hmm…unless there are some clearly demonstrable side-effects from this “Plan B” usage, I guess I simply don’t understand the problem, here…
Oh…I guess this is based on the same sort of “conservative” reasoning that says that, if 16-year-olds are allowed to have a driver’s license, it may lead to them running away from home…
I used to snicker and roll my eyes at this sort of quasi-”conservative” reasoning, because it was so stupid that it was laughable. These days, I just roll my eyes - briefly - because it’s no longer funny. It’s just stupid.
Sounds like President Wendy may have been chugging down way, way too much of her “medication” of choice. Strong, indeed the stupid is with this one…
Like Bill said, Wendy - you don’t like it, don’t use it - but take your overpaternalistic “Concern” someplace else.
It’s a good thing, as ol’ Martha Stewart might say, that the FDA doesn’t pay over-much attention to twits like this…
