CQ Politics | Sources: Wiretap Recorded Rep. Harman Promising to Intervene for AIPAC

My first question in events like this is cui bono? Well, what is the ostensible effect of this release? Harman is made to appear pro-Israel in return for support in the US congress from Israeli interests, (and the notion that such support would have traction with Speaker Pelosi doesn’t do her any good, either) and Israel is made to look bad as well.

Two immediate possibilities spring to mind: Former admin officials trying to make Democrats leaders like Harman and Pelosi look bad (and who don’t care about damaging Israel in the process) or current admin officials (I’m looking at you, Rahm) preparing the battle space on behalf of Obama for when he has to deal with Israeli responses to the Iranian nuke program (and who don’t care about damaging Pelosi in the process).

This multi-bladed backstabbing smells more of Rahmbo to me. The GOP doesn’t tend to be as skilled at this sort of game.
