It’s Probably Too Much to Hope For

New town may be death blow to hopes for Israel peace - Times Online

Better known under its old British mandate name, E1, it is the most controversial development project in the region, one that diplomats and observers warn will trigger the collapse of the weakened Palestinian Authority, or drive it into armed resistance again.

I can’t imagine by Bibi and Avi would do this, unless they do intend, one way or another, to destroy all Palestinian armed terror movements.

It is obvious to any sane observer that the Palestinians can never be appeased into amity with Israel. The more Israel offers, the more the Palestinian factions see themselves as winning.

And how many times have we seen Israel mount military offensives against its enemies, only to withdraw in the face of “international condemnation.”

What I wonder is if Bibi’s calculus goes something like this: The new American President is no friend of Israel’s. He even bends his knee and bows to the vicious terrorist financier and oilbag King of Saudi Arabia.

If so, it may well be that Israel’s days as an American ally are numbered anyway. Therefore, roll the dice and do as much as possible to destroy Israel’s regional enemies while the chance still exists.

If this is the case, then Israel will provoke a battle with Palestine and proceed to destroy all armed resistance, while ignoring the phony outrage of the Jew-hating world at large. I’d also expect Iran to be taught a sharp lesson about the difference between first world and second world militaries.

I can see no other reason for pushing ahead with this new town, otherwise.

But I’ve been very wrong about Israel’s resolve before.
