Barack Obama’s gift for the Queen: an iPod, your Majesty :: Toby Harnden
Barack Obama met the Queen at Buckingham Palace today and gave her a gift of an iPod loaded with video footage and photographs of her 2007 visit to the United States. In return, the Queen gave the President a silver framed photograph of herself - apparently a standard present for visiting dignitaries.
Seems a reasonably balanced exchange.
UPDATE: Drudge and some others are trying to blow this up into a big deal. That might be a mistake.
iPods are considered pretty cool deals among the younger generations, certainly equal to a fusty old pic of a fusty old lady in a fusty old silver frame. Which makes Obama look cool by comparison.
I’d leave it alone if I were them.

You did see that the iPod includes photos of Obama and videos of his speeches, right? That makes the gift the most perfect of all, because it’s a gift of HIM.
Call me an old fuddy-duddy, but I don’t think gifts between heads of state should require batteries to remain operable.
True. They should just stick to the traditional bags full of unmarked cash.
