My Kindle arrived today. I’m charging it up, but my first impression is hella sour. Seems my ghetto location is not served by the Kindle’s vaunted EVDO connection. At least I can’t get any bars, and can’t get it to connect.
That sorta takes a lot of the usefulness out of my $359 doorstop. I wonder if there’s a way to get it to hook up to WiFi?

Rural people and urban people will always have one thing in common… freaking dead zones.
That does suck. I am at the end of a cul-de-sac, bottom of a hill and just barely get cell service for either AT&T or verizon (I have both), but my Kindle works perfectly.
Bill, someone’s got to ask.
Don’t know much about Kindle 2 (hmmm… oh, never mind), but I do have a Kindle 1 and there is a separate switch for the wireless…
Nope, no wifi wireless on Kindle 2.
Bill, you’ve mentioned before that you have problems with cellular signals in your home. You might want to consider adding a passive cellular repeater (try a Google search on that) or you can go a little more hardcore here.
I’ve used home brew passive repeaters myself, and they can make the difference when you are in a fringe area, as you appear to be.
Bill lives in San Francisco. That’s like the standard newspaper habit of saying “alleged” even when the crime is palpable.
