Pajamas Media » The Not-So-Special Relationship: Why Obama Snubbed Gordon Brown
And Brown tried, he really did. In addition to that pen holder, there was the announcement of an honorary knighthood for Teddy Kennedy (the citation reads “For services to bartending and underwater search and rescue”). The announcement may have gone down badly in Britain, given Teddy’s past support for Irish Republican terrorists who murdered hundreds of British soldiers and innocent men, women, and children, but it was calculated to win friends and influence people in Washington.
Here’s a wrinkle I never considered.
It would be like Saddam Hussein presenting an Iraqi Order of High Merit to the 9/11 bombers, wouldn’t it?

If I read this correctly, it would be more like B. Hussein Obama awarding them the Presidential Medal of Freedom. It’d have to be posthumous, of course, but this is Teddy Kennedy, so we’re not straining the analogy very far.
?
Brown=Saddam (giving award to 9/11 bombers)
Kennedy=9/11 Bombers (he gave material aid and comfort to IRA killers).
Right. My only problem with the analogy you gave is who it is that’s giving the award. Saddam Hussein lionizing the 9/11 bombers would be roughly equivalent to Sinn Fein (not Brown) lionizing Kennedy.
I really don’t buy the notion that Saddam was a mover behind 9/11.
Neither do I. But Saddam giving out awards isn’t going to piss off the home crowd, is it?
