Obama losing the stimulus message war - Jeanne Cummings - Politico.com
At this crucial juncture in the push to pass an economic recovery package, President Obama finds himself in the most unlikely of places: He is losing the message war.
Despite Obama’s sky high personal approval ratings, polls show support has declined for his stimulus bill since Republicans and their conservative talk-radio allies began railing against what they labeled as pork barrel spending within it.
Despite Obama’s “sky high personal approval ratings?” The lefty hacks at Politico never cease pushing their propaganda, do they?
In fact, Obama’s approval ratings have dropped from +30 on the day after he was inaugurated, to +19 today. That is a collapse of nearly 37% in less than two weeks of actual governance. At this rate, he could be in GWB territory in another month or so.

Twisting statistics to push an argument agains the “lefties at Politico”…gotta love it. The same study states:
1/22/09–Total Approval Ratings:
Approve: 65%
Disapprove: 30%
2/5/09–Total Approval Ratings:
Approve: 62%
Disapprove: 36%
Only a 3% drop in his approval ratings. Which is what Politico is using to say his ratings are still “sky high,” but I’m guessing that’s not the mesage you want to push. So carry on, by all means.
How did I twist them? Did I mis-quote the numbers? Is my math in error?
Are you a leftist flack for the lefties at Politico?
You betcha. Destroying Obama’s presidency, the Democrat party, and the leftwing MSM propaganda machine all jostle for room at the top of my list of intentions.
Say - were you the guy who leaped the rope at The Won’s press conference in hope you could
give Obama a blow jobget his autograph?Dumbass.
The only modern president who entered the White House with higher poll approval ratings than The Won was Jimmy Carter, and we all know how that turned out. This Bozo seems to be making similar mistakes, and his fall is coming on faster than farmer Jimmy’s did. The thing is, when your support comes from charisma instead of ideology, it may be wide but is very thin.
The longer people are exposed to the truth: experientially inept, Marxist ideology, Chicago Thuggery tactics that bought B.Hussein (with help from ACORN) the White House the more his popularity will spiral DOWN. The same goes with the Porkulus and Political Payback Package. No wonder, he’s using age old liberal (Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals) tactics: use FEAR! “Pass the Stimulus NOW or we’ll never recover!” What a crock. There is nothing in this package but PORK and I advise everyone to research the specifics:I too hope Socialism fails. This stimulus bill stimulates nothing but more debt, It doesn’t create jobs it creates PORK. Dimocrats wrote it, they can take credit for it. If you know anything about economics you know this outrageous spending spree won’t improve the economy. NONE of this will go into your pocket so why the emergency? They’ve even said you won’t see any improvement for 18 months and by then they will CREATE more crisis and have to have stimulus pork package #3. Government doesn’t build or create anything - the taxpayers do! So thanks for being such good little sheep and working hard to pay for others food stamps, decorate federal buildings and buy your government employee a better car than you drive!
Stimulating Government Spending not jobs, here are some SPECIFIC OF THE PORKULUS PACKAGE: $1 billion for Amtrak, that hasn’t turned a profit in 40 years.$2 billion for child-care subsidies. $50 million for the National Endowment for the Arts.$400 million for global-warming fraud research. I wonder how much will help pay for Fat Al’s - the inventor of the internet - lavish life style? Perhaps he can buy himself another Nobel Prize. I hear you can get them cheap. $600 million for federal government to buy new cars. $7 billion to decorate (in Green) and remodel federal buildings $20 billion for food stamps and $36 billion for unemployment! Yeah, there’s a lot of job creation in that! $83 billion income credit for people who don’t pay income tax! Sounds like a great idea, for all working people to give billions to illegal aliens. $30 billion, or less than 5% of the spending in the bill, is for fixing bridges or other highway projects. $40 billion for broadband, electric grid development, airports and water projects. $20 billion for business tax cuts, and only $90 billion out of $825 billion, or about 12 cents of every $1, is for something that can by any stretch of the imagination be called stimulus. Oh, and my favorite is 5.2 Billion to nonprofit community groups such as ACORN!
It’s a shame that the American middle and lower class wage earners have to suffer because the republicans want to demonstrate their anger that we got our democratic president, While folks are out here loosing their homes wondering if they are going to loose their auto’s also; and can hardly feed their families; republicans are digging in to say no to them. Just a few months back you took the taxpayers money to let the big guys play on. Obviously you aren’t thinking about the American wage earner, tax payer families that you represent. Come on guys; let the man do his job ; help America be what it used to be.
Fae
GO AWAY! YOU’RE ONE OF THOSE PESSIMISTIC PEOPLE THAT,THANK GOD, DON’T COME OUT OF THE QUAGMIRE VERY OFTEN. BUT WHEN YOU DO YOU GIVE US ALL A GOOD LAUGH! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO HELP ANYONE LATELY? TRIED TO BORE YOUR FELLOW WORKERS TO DEATH?
What, exactly, do you think is in this bill that is going to keep you from “loosing” your homes and autos? What in this bill is going to help you feed your family?
Do you have any idea what you are supporting? Somehow, I doubt it, any more than I think you have the slightest idea who - and what - caused our current crisis.
You’ve guzzled the Kool-Aid that Saint Barry and the Democrat choir are going to wave a magic wand and pay for your house, your car, and a chicken in every pot. I’d probably feel some anger at your ignorance, if I didn’t pity you for the pathetic state you’re going to find yourself in after so blindly trusting one of the great political con men of modern times.
Uh oh. I wonder which moonbat lefty sinkhole just linked this post?
An off topic quote, sorta:
“Democracy can withstand anything but Democrats.”
J. Harshaw 1904- (Robert A. Heinlein)
bill quick,
I find it hard to believe you, like fae, think you are the only intelligent folks in the world. that you also think you can convince the rest of the world to fall into your ignorant attitude. but, hey! go for it; we’ll see who has the right to feel anger at another’s ignorance. after the con man, you probably thought would put a chicken in your pot; conned the American people to start a war just because dear old dad didn’t finish the job; left office we the American people are in the worst shape we’ve been in for many years. did i hear a cheer for the republican leadership? didn’t think so. we were all out at the inauguration!
@ JANE…
WTF does that drivel even mean?
To people like you, I can only offer the following:
Jane seems to have a problem finding the shift and caps lock keys. This may be an indication of some deep seated mental or emotional problem.
Don’t rule out stupidity.
Jane, you ignorant slut. The world already has enough stupid people, so make sure you do not pass your infirmities on to another generation. Please cut out your ovaries with a carving knife.
SteveF, you’ve been waiting most of your life to use that line.
Jane, unlike you, those of us who have actual principles are not for sale to the con artist who bids highest. Then again, you’re probably too stupid to be able to imagine that your opponents are not just mirror images of yourself, or to ever correct your dismal ignorance about, well, everything.
Over the last five days, Rasmussen tracking has Obama’s approve/disapprove differential averaging +17.2. Strongly approve is off 6% since Inauguration day, Strongly disapprove is up 7%. The numbers don’t support a decline in Obama’s core support, yet, as his overall approval number is in the low 60s, still higher than his vote total. I’d suggest that this means that many of those who didn’t vote for him but were willing to give him the benefit of the doubt have already seen enough in three weeks to change their minds.
As I and others have noted, you are extremely ignorant about, well, everything. I’ve noticed that ignorant worshipers in the Church of The Won tend to repeat your tired drivel over and over: that Iraq should never have been started, and that GWB is entirely responsible for the state of the economy.
So allow me to enlighten you, as much as that can be done:
Iraq was a brilliant move, as long as it was a part of a larger strategy to defeat the wellspring of Islamofascist terror, that is, the regimes that support, finance, arm, train, and use the Islamofascist terror gangs. As a first step in that larger campaign, it made perfect sense strategically: Take Iraq, then immediately turn and bombard the lunatic Mullahs of Iran into oblivion. Toppling the government in Syria would have made an excellent trifecta, and would have given us all the leverage we needed to defang the Wahabbi movement in Saudi Arabia. And having accomplished all that, we would have been free of Islamofascist terror, without the necessity of turning large segments of American daily life into the province of petty security tyrants and their practices.
Bush’s mistake with Iraq was not that he invaded, but that he stopped there.
As for the economy, the proximate cause of this latest collapse (unlike the collapse gifted us by Bill Clinton) was that Democrats in Congress forced the private banking system, via tools like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, to give mortgages to millions of people who could not afford them. Once that was done, the private system found new ways that turned out to be quite risky to monetize those mortgages, and when the business cycle turned - as it always does - that risk blew up in everybody’s face. But the initial cause was still the Democrat urge to provide welfare in the form of houses people couldn’t afford, subsidized by private banks who otherwise would not have done so.
I know all of this goes right over your head, just as the notion that I am not, and have not been for some time, a fan of George Bush or the GOP. But the same lefty nostrums that have failed us time and again will not save us this time, either, just as Nancy, Harry, and Barry’s attempted power grab won’t do anything but weigh down our economy even more heavily.
A final note: Even though I have little use for the GOP, it has never, to my knowledge, promised America a chicken in every pot. That level of free lunch has always been the province of ignorant liberals like yourself, who have never heard of, or simply don’t believe, that TANSTAAFL.
I don’t. But the evidence indicates that I am a lot smarter than you, and folks like you, are.
Something I know you will have difficulty accepting, but then, lefties have always had problems with apprehending reality.
HELLO, I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT CAPITAL LETTERS AND BEING WORRIED ABOUT HOW I THROW OUT MY THOUGHTS AT AN ARROGANT BUNCH OF REPUBLICANS. YOU GUYS ARE SUCH SORE LOSERS; IT’S PATHETIC; YOUR PREDIGEST MAKES ME SICK, AND I WOULD IMAGINE THE FACT THAT YOU DON’T GET SPECIAL TAX CUTS THIS YEAR HAS YOU REACHING OUT TO BE NASTY TO ANYONE THAT DOESN’T AGREE WITH YOU. BUT, YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD AT SOME POINT; I DO AND HAVE WORKED WITH THE MENTALLY ILL FOR THE PAST 16 YEARS….YOUR SYMPTOMS ARE SHOWING, MAYBE YOU SHOULD GET BACK ON YOUR MEDS; MAYBE THEY WILL REDUCE YOUR SYMPTOMS. ARE YOU GUYS ALL IN THE KKK TOGETHER? YOUR LYNCH MOB ATTITUDE IS QUITE APPARENT
IF YOU ARE SO INTELLIGENT WHY AREN’T YOU IN THE WHITE HOUSE YOURSELF; NO DON’T ANSWER THAT QUESTION, YOU ARE THE KIND OF FELLOW THAT WOULD SOLVE ALL OF OUR PROBLEMS WITH A BOMB!
so when did being a mom talking about politics refer back to being a slut?
i guess this goes to show your ignorance, one shot one kill.
As if that was not readily apparent.
Jane, you ignorant slut, lucky for you I have nothing better to do than attempt to educate you. Your ignorance may, possibly, be curable. Your hopeless stupidity, alas, is not.
The mysteries of the shift key are clearly too deep for your shallow intellect, but this would be one place to use capitals. MOM, as an acronym for Move On Moron, is properly capitalized.
Not here, Sweetie-Pie. A few DP commenters self-describe as Republicans, but there are more conservatives and libertarians. Me, I’m an anarchist. And a cannibal, but the thought of eating you makes me queasy, so let’s change the subject.
There you go again, waving your ignorance like a pair of semen-splattered panties. People who can’t do math and to whom science is a closed book (look in the mirror, you MOM; I’m talking about you) get all shuddery at the thought of the magical powers of The Bomb, but reality (that thing you don’t like) is much more prosaic. “A bomb”, or even a lot of bombs, wouldn’t solve all our problems for the simple reason that they kill too indiscriminately. To truly solve the problems that plague Mankind, we need a virus that targets the Stupid gene. If this virus is ever developed and released, you’re odds-on favorite to be Patient Zero. Unfortunately, developing a virus to attack only the stupid is harder than you’d think. (If you thought, a contrafactual supposition.)
Explaining a joke is like dissecting a frog. The frog dies and nobody was really that interested in looking at its insides.
Jane, it’s really no fun having a battle of wits with the obviously unarmed. Why don’t you go back to your mentally ill patients and take care of the poor dears. They need your attention far more than we do.
Is this JANE actually SteveF trolling everyone again? She’s over the top. Someone compare the IP addresses…
You can tell it isn’t my work because “JANE” writes as if she were hit in the head with a hammer. My “babbling idiot” trolls don’t descend that far.
Can we be sure “Jane” isn’t really Nadya Suleman?
A MOM that worked with the mentally challenged.
There must be some psychiatric ward version of the “Stockholm Syndrome” at work here. “JANE” acts as kooky as one of her charges.
Didn’t get any last year. You need to be a registered democrat to get those. You simply don’t pay…
It’s had an apparent effect.
To my knowledge, Robert Byrd (D) doesn’t post here.
Clearly, no intelligence is required.
SteveF:
Very lawyerly response. IMHO, the FOS (Finger Of Suspicion) still points in SteveF’s direction.
I want to say one thing to the Daily Pundit people. I want you to listen to me. I’m gonna say this again. I did not have intellectual relations with that woman, Miss JANE. I never told anybody to babble incoherently, not a single time, never. These allegations are false, and I need to go back to work for the Daily Pundit people.
Well, that eloquent, ringing denial is good enough for me!
SteveF-1, accusers-0
As a member of the august body of editors here at DP I fully endorse SteveF in these trying times even in light of this evidence, although I am particularly interested in the efficacy of the fuzzy pink ball.
I’VE BECOME MORE POPULAR THAN DISHING OBAMA, YOUR LACK OF FOCUS IS LAUGHABLE. GROW UP BOYS! NMFM
\
Don’t get a big head, pinhead. Whack-a-mole is even more popular.
Jane, you commented here, on a mostly open but privately operated forum, presumably of your own free will. You clearly didn’t bother to look around, read anything, or learn anything about the owner, moderators, or regulars here. Your opening comment in this space was the above specimen of mocking nastiness. You seemed surprised when we replied in kind. Do you find that when you engage in such nastiness on other websites that you are ignored, or even commended? That’s not how we roll at DailyPundit.
Here, we reserve our nastiness for those who won’t think clearly, who won’t write clearly, and who make a spectacle of their ignorance. You’ve done all of the above. If you had an actual point to make, you should have made it. Instead, in three days you’ve chosen only to beclown yourself, repeatedly. The odds that you actually have an informed or meaningful contribution to make have decayed to zero.
The only thing that might make you even remotely interesting going forward would be to compete to see who can insult you the most thoroughly, savagely, and humorously. For my part, I don’t think you’re worth the effort. You don’t want any more of our attention? Fine, your wish is granted. You bore me. FOAD.
Now, now, be nice. Maybe she’s willing to think, just lacks the ability. JANE’s pimp probably beat her a lot when she was being broken in—a lot of twelve year olds try to fight it at first—and she’s suffering complications from untreated head injuries. That, plus the obvious alcoholism and brain-attacking syphilis don’t leave her much to work with. The only saving grace is that JANE can take a couple of hours to write each of her comments; it gives her something to do while waiting for the welfare check to come in.
Can I get in on that? Is there an entry fee?
They’re not the same. “JANE” is, however, the same person as “jessica thompson.”
“Z” came here from http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090205/ap_on_re_us/car_explosion; “Fae” from http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/18444. “jessica thompson” and/or “JANE” came from http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090206/ap_on_go_co/congress_stimulus the first time around, and thereafter bookmarked the page to facilitate her eight subsequent visits.
“JANE” comes through Atlantic-BB whereas I come through RoadRunner. I waited until someone else reported on our different IP addresses, as my assurances on the matter might not be reassuring.
That’s true. However, XORing your IP addresses together, the result is 13.209.130.224, which address belongs to Xerox Corporation. Coincidence? I think not. Not only that, but whether we add them together as big-endian signed or as little-endian unsigned, the result is still… overflow. Ewwwww….
That reminds me of a joke: what do you call JANE when she has a runny nose? Full.
(Martin: Is the competition still on? I’m not sure if I should be insulting JANE thoroughly, savagely, and humorously, or in my normal fashion.)
She just seemed so over-the-top I thought SteveF was pulling our leg again. His trolls tend to strike when least expected, like Thanksgiving 2006. I remember something in that post about ’standing at attention in silence for 3 hours to atone for my sins’ as part of his Thanksgiving observance. He had me going that time.
You’re doing great, SteveF. I was hoping that someone would jump in and try to top you, but you seem to have preemptively overawed the competition.
There’s a distinct difference between “attention” and “popularity”
A dish of honey is “popular”…while a pile of bullshit tends to draw “attention”…
See how that works?
Your lack of comprehension is virtually beyond comprehension - and laughable, as well…
As opposed to - what?…grow down girls?
Unless this means “No More Female Morons” (which would be a good thing, and equal to No More JANE), this is just more incomprensible…moronity.
No wonder JANE rhymes with inane.
(Whoops - blew the spelling on that last “incomprehensible”, there.)
BTW - I ignored the “DISHING”; I figured she might have meant “dissing,” but couldn’t get the attendants to let her out of the wet-sheet wrapping long enough to look it up in her “Spelling For Dummies” reference book.
Holy Fornicating Chicken-Fried Popes!
That Jane is just dumber than a box of Democratic rocks.
JANE! Come back, JANE!
(Oops, wrong movie.)
JANE! Is there anything we can do to bring your admittedly-deficient intellectual ramblings to a higher level of incompetence? Those of us here at DP are nothing if not sympathetic to those who willingly submit to the sacred position of semi-sentient chewtoy, and there are those out there who will defend to the death your right to say what you fervently believe, as long as we also get the right to maintain that your fervent beliefs have as much similarity to reality as the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, or Barbra Streisand.
We need your presence, your insightful analysis, your brave assertions, and above all, we need to see that there are those noble souls out there who look at life and bravely, selflessly, continue to run headlong into the same brick wall over and over again without ever noticing how much they’ve been damaged by said behavior.
And, JANE, it is indeed noble. It’s selfless. It’s brave. And we need you. And your friends. Or your multiple personalities. Whatever. As many as you can shoehorn on that little shortie school bus you seem to be spending your life on. The more the merrier, because if you represent the intellectual standard of The Won’s posse, we’re going to need as much target practice as possible.
(In which case the words “fish” and “barrel” come to mind.)
