I’ll be posting stuff throughout the day about the Obama Immaculation as the spirit moves me.
Two impressions from Fox coverage this morning: First, the blow-drys are speaking in the same hushed tones they’d use in a cathedral, watching a British coronation.
Second, they keep comparing Obama to Lincoln and FDR.
Uh, dumbasses? The man has not done anything in his career except run for office. It’s the only thing he has any experience in doing. His associations - at least the ones we know about - are murky, unsettling, and ominous. His agenda is downright frightening. And his resemblance to the great presidents of our nation is, at this point, absolutely zero.
Which brings to mind something darkly hilarious I heard on NPR yesterday: One of the blabberheads was opining about the Anointed One and his resemblance to “the great presidents of modern times.”
And who might those presidents be?
FDR, Truman, and Kennedy, natch.
No Eisenhower - whose national approval ratings are untouched by any Democrat since FDR, and who guided us through the end of WWII and into the greatest economic boom of our modern history - or Ronald Reagan, another Republican who left office with approval about as good as when he entered it, and whose ratings have climbed ever since, who destroyed America’s great post-war enemy, the Soviet Union, and who also guided us out of dark economic times and into the second greatest economic boom of modern times. And by the way, if you’re looking for a big-time economic fix or recovery, the Democrat presidencies are not the best place to find one - and that includes the vastly over-rated FDR.
Strange world those libs live in.

I’m wearing my blue tracksuit, my brand new shiny white Nike’s and my Hefty bag. I’m ready, Obama! Wheeeee!
Might one inquire: Just where, precisely, are you wearing that Hefty bag?
He’s hefty. Go back to 8th grade health class if you need further clarification. That segment of the class requires a parental permission slip.
That’s about what I expected, Steve, but I thought I’d give an opening for a more explicit statement.
Never mind…
I just finished reading your inauguration day posts. Thank you for this wonderful, wonderful helping of petty bile and childish, impotent wailing against your crushing defeat. It goes well with my coffee and our victory.
Y.G.B. ? Perhaps a chew toy from the past? Victory only comes with accomplishment and that has yet to be seen. So far only platitudes and feel good nonsense.
Heh. Don’t like it much when we treat your Anointed One the same way you petty, bilious assholes treated every non-socialist you could find for the past eight years, do you? Bush wasn’t your President, you said. Well, Obama is president of the US - we are at least adult enough to concede that - but his policies and agendas aren’t mine, and I’ll be happy to do everything I can to help destroy his political career and his presidency in order to keep those policies and agendas from being implemented.
Impotent? We’ll see. I used to say something similar about you socialists.
So expect a lot more of it - my refusal to worship your tin god, that is - and enjoy your victory while you can. I don’t think it’s going to be that long. And, yeah, your nervous gloating does rather spice up my morning java, too.
By the way, you’re unbanned here. We need somebody like you around, to remind us exactly what we have to deal with.
I change the baby’s diapers several times a day. YGB is entirely redundant.
“By the way, you’re unbanned here.”
That’s cute. Of course I am.
“Bush wasn’t your President, you said.”
I did? I doubt that… but you never really care when it comes to putting words in my mouth.
I didn’t post that comment to open a dialogue… I posted it to celebrate and to then read your semi-coherent, predictable response. Thanks!
I’ll pop in occasionally to watch you all whimpering and simpering, just as I have been. What you “have to deal with” is a president who won the election by nearly 200 electoral votes and nearly 9 million individual votes, an 18 seat senate majority, and a 79 seat majority in the house. You have to deal with the fact that your ass-backwards ideology got its electoral ass kicked all over the nation. You lost a house seat in IDAHO, for chrissakes. Well done.
Enjoy the next two years. In 2010, the margins in Congress will likely shrink a bit. Then you can enjoy two more years.
Petty, bilious assholes is a general phrase (although it does include you) and many of you petty, bilious assholes did say exactly that. But I wouldn’t expect you, YGB, to understand nuance.
And yes, I can ban you from commenting, and act on it. I don’t care if you read. And at the moment, I’m still permitting you to comment.
I want to keep the troops riled up, and knowing that you’re just thrilled by The Obama and all his works is a good way to accomplish that.
And folks, as YGB so astutely points out, there’s millions more of him out there. Although I don’t think that will last. The trajectory of liberal Presidents in this country has generally been straight down*. The Obama will be no different. And just think - as it happens - as we help to make it happen - we can listen to YGB’s petty, bilious screams of rage and agony.
Johnson - driven from office
Carter - total failure, the worst president of modern times
Clinton - a human porn cartoon, impeached.
Obama — ?
Ahhhh.
YGB.
Oh, man. SteveF is gonna have a field day. Let’s all just sit back, relax and have a cocktail. This is going to be fun.
Go ahead and crow while you can, YGB, you shit-filled diaper on the ass-end of the Daily Pundit commentariat. My guess is that Obama, Pelosi, their fellow travelers, and the useful fools* will have two years to fuck up the nation. In 2010 there will be a backlash the like of which has never been seen, and the Democrat and Liberal Parties will cease to exist.
But take heart, YGB, you brain-damaged lesion on the scrotum of the nation. You can resume fucking sheep with perfect safety. Once the syphilis has rotted your brain, you have nothing more to fear from it.
* Look in a mirror if the meaning is unclear, you illogical vampire, before you resume sucking the blood out of every reasonable conversation around you.
You mean like that, Mojo?
I blew that New Year’s resolution. But it’s sort of like asking a tiger to stick to his new diet of pancakes when a brain-damaged calf lumbers by.
Um.
Yeah.
But you gotta clean up the mess.
Damn, SteveF you do good work. Makes we almost want to say some maroonish stuff just to get you all riled up.
Thanks for the giggles (after the last two days I can use ‘em).
Ahh - Young BadMan Braun is back, preening and posturing to no avail and for no discernible reason -
Now, the real fun can be escalated further…
Chew on this one, fella…
Yes, indeedy, but the greatest landslide ever was accomplished by a Republican (and genuinely conservative - although flawed in other ways) POTUS - and that can easily happen again.
Your beloved Obamanation will likely supply the road to such an occurence.
JB, I’m not sure you can call any President who institutes wage and price controls a “genuine conservative.”
Wups - sorry, I temporarily “disremembered” the era of “wage-and-price controls” (which was, of course, intolerably one-sided - wage controls are fairly easy to impose; price controls are, in the end, impossible to “enforce” - that old “supply and demand” thing at work).
At that, the referenced POTUS was closer to genuinely conservative than almost any in the 20th/21st centuries; certainly closer than any (except, possibly, Ford) since his somewhat hasty departure from office.
My point to the sometime-gadfly is still valid, I think - recent electoral events should not be taken as evidence of any sort that, doltish as they may be, the vast majority of the electorate rejected conservatism and/or libertarian principles as being “ass-backwards ideology.” What was rejected - as mentioned hereabouts, as well as in numerous other locales - was RINO/DemoLite policies, both domestic and foreign, and a very badly-waged
War On (Some) Terror(ism), in overwhelming favor of “something different.”
It remains to be seen if the “something” will be anything like the kind of “different” that electorate wants or will choose to keep. Politics is sometimes a bit like football - you can never be certain just how the ball will bounce.
Election 2008 was a triumph of public relations/marketing over reason and argumentation - it was not a clash of political ideologies.
