My Way News - Source: Treasury nominee failed to pay taxes

WASHINGTON (AP) - President-elect Barack Obama’s choice to run the Treasury Department and lead the economic rescue effort disclosed to senators Tuesday that he failed to pay $34,000 in taxes from 2001 to 2004, a last-minute complication in an otherwise smooth path to confirmation.

Who the heck is vetting these people? The McCain campaign?

Of course, if this was a McCain nominee, not only would the vetting have been denounced, but the mere notion of a non-taxpaying head of the Treasury Department would be excoriated for days in every leftwing media organ.

In this case, I suspect the thigh-tingled MSM will pass this all off as a mere peccadillo, barely worth mentioning, and certainly no reason to deny the many control of the Fed money machine.

UPDATE: Right. Big surprise.

Questions raised about Treasury nominee - The Oval: Tracking the Obama presidency

Update at 4:50 p.m. ET. More from Baucus. He says he is “disappointed,” but wants to move forward with confirmation:

“I am disappointed in the errors found in Tim Geithner’s tax returns and other information, but I am satisfied that Mr. Geithner has taken the steps necessary to fix these problems,” Baucus says in a statement his office has given to reporters.
