Charity homes built by Hollywood start to crumble - Times Online
Some residents dismiss their neighbours’ worries. Diennal Fields, 51, said people did not know how to look after their homes: “It’s simple stuff: if there is mildew, don’t get a lawyer, get a bottle of bleach.”
I’m not a big fan of the sort of charitable smugness personified by many of the supporters of Habitat for Humanity, but Ms. Fields has it right. Of course, this sort of bitching (and absolute ignorance of the principles of self-reliance) is to be expected from the entitlement types who tend to end up living in Habitat projects.

The deeper point illustrated here is that you cannot make a poor and irresponsible person into a prosperous and responsible one by giving him material wealth. That just creates a temporarily prosperous irresponsible person; the irresponsibility then destroys the wealth and you’re back where you started. Our character is not created by our surroundings.
The application of this point to the Marxist view that human nature is created by economic circumstances is left as an exercise for the student.
Is it the occupants or the rush job by amateurs?
The sweating could be the result of poor ventilation, a design or construction flaw.

The problems being experienced come from three primary factors:
1. Poor design and construction.
2. The landfill.
3. Poor cleaning and maintenance.
How much each of these factors affect a given home will vary. I’ve seen units in the projects that were spotless and high end houses that needed serious cleaning. I’ve also got some relatives (by marriage) that can have a new home looking like it should be condemned within six months of moving in. OTH the subdivision they live in does appear to have been built on the cheap.
