Microbiologist Tests Safety Of Spiked Eggnog
ScienceDaily (Dec. 29, 2008) — With one in every 20,000 eggs contaminated with Salmonella bacteria, drinking homemade eggnog can be something of a gamble. But an experiment designed to test whether the alcohol in spiked eggnog can kill the deadly bugs suggests that, in general, few bacteria survive in a mixture containing both raw eggs and 20 percent rum and bourbon.
I love the way scientists devise ever-newer excuses to get blotto in the name of research.
But the results are noteworthy: In general, adding rum or bourbon to most food groups improves them.

I’m all in favor of this kind of research.
“In general, adding rum or bourbon to most food groups improves them.”
I’ve certainly found that true with breakfast cereal…
Call me crazy, but in my younger days, I used to eat those very sweet kid cereals, even as an adult - sugar pops, frosted flakes, like that. And believe it or not, I did like to drop a dash of bourbon into the milk.
Vodka, gin, and scotch don’t work. Never tried rum, although dark rum might have gone well also.
