He should have told the truth, saying something like, “Yes, of course I’ve discussed who would take my vacant Senate seat with the governor, but I had absolutely no knowledge that the guy was at the same time attempting to illegally sell the seat to the highest bidder. That sickens me.” That’s what Obama should have said.I believe that he lied instead, which only makes him look guilty of something when he isn’t.
Of course, Katie, Blago himself apparently called Obama a motherfucker for turning down his demands, which indicates that Obama and/or his people certainly did know what the governor was trying to peddle, and didn’t do anything to try to stop the illegal auction except refuse to bid himself.
Big risks for Obama in Blago scandal - Ben Smith and Jonathan Martin - Politico.com
Obama aides see proof of his vindication in the fact that Blagojevich, in the secret tapes, complains that the president-elect’s team won’t give him anything. Obama emerged personally untarnished in the 78-page Blagojevich complaint. He was, to the allegedly deeply corrupt governor, the “mother***er” who was owed no favors and a lily-livered reformer who, instead of a bribe, wouldn’t give the disgusted Blagojevich “anything except appreciation.”
That’s from my knowledge of how politics works, and the evidence so far. (via Instapundit).
UPDATE: And why are people giving a pass to all this “Senate Candidate #5″ (was it Jesse, Jr.?) and “governor assistant B” stuff? I want to know who specifically was involved in this slimedance. Name the damned names!

I don’t think Obama is clean, at least I’m not convinced yet.
“From the President-elect’s perspective.” “Fewer ‘fingerprints.’” This is Jack Murtha and Abscam. “I can’t do X because I could get caught, so let’s talk about Y.” And then Blago went off because he wanted X. That’s not innocence.
Fitzgerald is an unprincipled, lying political hack. His Plame investigation was an embarrassment and he intentionally jumped the gun on this to prevent something from happening. The question is who he is trying to protect in this by preventing everything from unfolding, either the possible senate nominee or Obama himself. I don’t buy that Fitzgerald has the good interests of the American people at heart.
Oh, that quote came from the American Thinker’s summary.
