The number two man at NBC News believes Barack Obama’s skin color gives him more legitimacy around the world than possibly any American leader in history.
For those unfamiliar, Mark Whitaker is the Senior Vice President that succeeded the late Tim Russert as NBC’s Washington Bureau Chief, and currently oversees national and international reporting for all the network’s news programs including the “Nightly News,” the “Today” show, MSNBC, and “Meet the Press.”
As part of the panel on Sunday’s “The Chris Matthews Show,” Whitaker said the following about Barack Obama (h/t American Thinker’s Marc Sheppard, file photo):
Was he masturbating as he said this? I’m sure it got a rise out of Tinglethighs Mathews.
If you know what I mean.

The sidebar photo clip of this bozo Whitaker shows an expression on his phiz that makes it very clear he was about to have an “event” in his britches - he’s virtually drooling down his chin.
Simplicity itself: Matthews, et.al., share this clearly racist viewpoint.
You have to wonder just a bit: What’s it going to be like for these clowns, when Hussein The One turns out to be - horrors! - unable to manage anything useful out of that supposedly heightened “legitimacy” in the rest of the world? When (as seems likely to anyone who does not worship at the feet of The Bringer Of Light) the Hopey-Change Process fails to impress foreign powers, and all the new “diplomatic initiative” does not actually change much of anything?
IMO Whitaker was (attempting to) tell the truth “as he sees it” (but doing a bad job of it). He’s voicing the po-mo/tranzi-progressive assumption that any “not white male” American President would have more “legitimacy” among the (generally not-white) noisy third-world corruptocrats.
Of course, Whitaker is an idiot, and his words reflect it. What exactly does he mean by “legitimacy” (”credibility’? “empathy”?) and to whom is “Obama as President” supposed to be “legitimate” (Mugabe? The Islamists? The U.N.?). Perhaps he’s implying that an elected President still isn’t “legitimate” unless anointed by the media. (Obama is, Bush wasn’t.)
(Not that any of this is worthy of much analysis: I’d bet Whitaker was probably just “making the right noises,” has never thought through what he was saying, and would be unable to explain or amplify it if asked.)
And behind it is the progressive’s “racism of low expectations:” All it takes to convince those little black and brown folks to shut up and behave is for America to elect a President who looks like them. Which ignores the fact that national or tribal interest always trumps race.
It’s likely that we’ll be hearing a lot of this sort of thing, especially from the chattering classes and the members of the international grievance industry. But it’s just noise: They remain anti-American, and any “honeymoon” will last only as long as Obama (1) goes against American interests and (2) gives them what they want.
Wouldn’t that mean that Condi and Collin are more legitimate than Madeline and Hillary?
Isn’t the Secretary of State considered an “American leader”?
OTH, if skin color means so much to these other countries….
Why are we worried what racists think about us?
Now Genes, you know that Condi and Colin don’t qualify: They lost any legitimacy by working for an Evil Republican Administration. ;-)
And skin color only matters to those other countries when they can use it to bash us.
I stopped worrying about what they think a long time ago, but our “progressive internationalists” still seem to find it important.
