One Way to Get to a Working Sixty
November 14th 2008 Obama, Hillary, GOP, McCain

Local Fox News is reporting rumors that Obama has summoned John McCain to Chicago. Apparently Obama is now handing out goodies - and is also rumored to be offering Hillary the SecState post.

Some thoughts: Pulling Hillary out of the Senate and into his cabinet would eliminate her power base as well as any possibility that she could challenge him in 2012. And, of course, giving McCain some plum to replace his Senate seat would leave Arizona’s Dem governor Janet Napolitano a clear field to appoint a liberal GOP successor (state law mandates that she appoint a replacement from the same party as the Senator being replaced). Would McCain take such an offer? Why not? He could stick it in the eye of a GOP he probably figures didn’t support him, deliver a body blow to the conservatives he despises, and finally end up working for his natural party - the Democrats.
