For any of you hopeful “moderates” out there who still think that Democrats pay anything but lip service to fiscal conservatism, this should be your wakeup call:
Late last week the leader of the House Blue Dog Coalition, Tennessee Democrat Jim Cooper, announced that with Barack Obama about to enter the White House, “I’m not sure the old rules are relevant anymore.” Why not? Because, Mr. Cooper said, “It would be unfair to the new President to put him in a budget straitjacket.”
Gee, Congresscritter Cooper, do you mean to say that “budget straitjackets” are only appropriate when there’s a Republican in the straitjacket?
Another educational note: this is a “Blue Dog” Democrat. Did those of you who elected these faux-conservatives actually take any of their campaign promises at face value? Did you think that candidates recruited by Rahm “Dead Fish” Emmanuel would have the guts to buck him and his “boss”, the One? They’re Democrats for a reason, people, and the reason is power.
UPDATE: About those “no tax increases” promises - those were lies too. Suckers.
