Folks, I feel good today, and I just realized one of the reasons why.
We’re free. Free at last. Free to be the happy warriors for freedom that we always were and always will be!
Free of George W. Bush. Free of John McCain. Free of the sickening smell of their shit sandwiches. Free of their taste. Free of the nausea. We’re free of the weight of their lies, their incompetence, their failures. We’re free of the betrayers, the “bipartisanship” and “compassionate conservatism” and “maverickiness” that always wound up with more taxes and regulations piled on our shoulders and more betrayals jammed between our ribs.
For eight long years, we fought for the Bush Administration, covered for them, fudged the truth for them, enabled them. The country was at war, and we could not in good conscience do otherwise. We were the battered spouses, the clean-up crew, the ever-loyal. We smiled through the tears, gritted our teeth through the pain, hoping that some day all those wonderful wedding day vows would be upheld. For eight long years, we hoped that George W. Bush would change. We carried the weight of that hope like a millstone around our necks. That day never came.
For the past six months, we fought to stop Barack Obama, but never without the uneasy glances over the shoulder at our “leader” John McCain, waiting for the next backstab. Our candidate, chosen for us by the Media and the RINOs, the “centrist”, the “maverick”. We fought for him even though we never trusted him, because we could see in an instant that the alternative was far, far worse.
It’s all over now. The divorce paperwork is filed, and in two months, it is final. We are free from George W Bush, the fumble-tongued failure. We thought only that our principles were too much for his clumsy lips, when in fact they were never in his heart. We are free from John McCain, the betrayer of the First Amendment, the betrayer of all the citizens and legal immigrants who only want to live in a nation of laws!
Now we are free, free, free! The shadows are gone from our hearts, the weight lifted from our backs! Free at last!
The future, as always, is uncertain. The upcoming battles are for another day. We still live in the most free and prosperous nation ever to exist, and we will fight for that freedom, fight for our posterity, so that those who come after us will yet share in what our forefathers made. Be not afraid, march to the battle with a song on our lips, for we are free!

Yeah. I’m looking forward to not having to fight my supposed “friends” almost as hard as my enemies. Of course, in the future, the group of those I number as my friends is going to be smaller.
No, cancel that. The number of my true friends - the friends of liberty - will remain the same, and perhaps even grow. I’ll just finally be able to stop pretending that my fake friends are real ones.
Free at last, free at last! Thank G*d Almighty, I am free at last!
Different context altogether, of course, but quite similar meaning -
Sort of ironic, when you think about it…
Perfectly timed post. I just mentioned to some friends over for dinner tonight that the election is actually liberating. No longer do I have to defend and admonish the administration at the same time. I don’t have to defend against the BushHitler charge made by the folks who are first in line to click their heels to a real fascist dictator. No longer do I have to point out the fact that GWB is a liberal, that “compassionate conservatism” is just a fancy way of being a socialist without the connotation.
I will now be free to treat the new administration just like the likes of kos and rohm have been doing with the current one for 8 years. It will be a hell of a lot more fun, and likely more productive.
Seems like Derbyshire is feeling similar feelings, though he’s crabbier about it.
