Rahm Emanuel: Time for a new contract with America.
A new social contract — universal citizen service, universal college access, universal retirement savings, and universal children’s health care — that makes clear what you can do for your country and what your country can do for you.
Excuse me Comrade, but your mask is slipping.

Which will, of course, make a college degree about as meaningful as a high school diploma.
More education can potentially make a person less ignorant, but the Left is building universal indoctrination centers, not real universities. Their universal college degree will be a ticket of indoctrination completion, not a sign of any actual education, critical thinking skills, or intellectual ability of any sort.
Let’s hope that the Singularity starts throwing up cures for organic stupidity, soon. Education has never cured stupidity, and never will.
As for memetically transmitted stupidity, we can expect the Singularity to generate more of that, not less.
I can’t think of any faster way for the Democrats to alienate a generation of young people than to force them into some sort of universal servitude for some of the prime years of their life.
I suppose I could vaguely support the idea of fully paid college education…with the following caveats.
First, the cost would be covered via a rebate after the degree is earned.
Second, iron-clad standards would be required to pass the courses and achieve the degree.
Third, it would only apply to “useful” areas of study, such as industrial chemistry, engineering, computer science, etc.
But since that will never fly, it’s all a pipe dream.
Regarding government health care…as I come from Canada I have a more realistic view of such “services” than most here in the US. The problem with the plans floated here (aside from the whole thing being a bad idea) is that they bear no resemblance to the systems elsewhere. In places like Canada, Britain, Japan and so on, the systems deliver a minimal degree of coverage. For example, in Japan they’ll fill your tooth–with amalgam, even in front. You want ceramic? Sure–open your wallet. Glasses? Sure, with these generic plastic frames. Want something else? Wallet, please. This even goes for cancer treatments! We’ve exhausted the approved treatments, and all we will offer you now is palliative care. You want more chemo? A new drug? Gamma knife treatment? Sure. Hold out your wallet and repeat after me: “Help yourself.” Hospital owners in Japan are among the richest people in the nation.
However, the American boosters want Platinum Card service for free. It doesn’t take an economics major to see how that is likely to turn out.
-cough- Military draft -cough-
But, if the draft is to be reinstituted, let’s make sure the Party of Equality applies it equally. Young women, the Selective Service office is right over there.
Nah, no military draft. Obambi doesn’t like soldiers or anything resembling soldiers. He won’t even allow himself to be photographed with his Secret Service protection detail. Sure, forcing the Armed Forces to have a draft would screw them up with conscript syndrome and take the edge off the all-volunteer force, but it would also mean more money and personnel, so no way. Plus it would also put young people under the power of drill instructors, who might actually whip some of them into shape and teach them self-reliance despite themselves.
What Obama likely has in mind is some sort of non-military draft. Two years in Americorps or something similar, doing something Lefties approve, under the direction of Lefty authority figures. Something like registering Democrat voters, or community organizing, or apprentice social work, or clerical & filing for the local EPA office, or something similar in the coming national healthcare megabureaucracy. Something with a very low chance of violence or death, but two years nonetheless at below-market wages, working for leftist causes and organizations, and extra indoctrination on the side.
Toren, we’ll get there, we’ll get there. The healthcare problem always comes down to rationing - there’s a limited supply, so who gets what? Eventually they get around to deciding that old, sick people are too expensive, and finding ways to legally do away with them. Most Americans really don’t understand how good our health care system actually is, despite all its problems. They judge it harshly because they’re comparing it to utopia, as usual, not to the real alternatives. Whatever “free” and “universal” system the Left replaces it with will cost more, provide less care, strangle most new advances, and kill more patients.
Oh, hey, and speaking of iatrogenic death, just wait until the loyal little Dem trial lawyers wake up and realize that they’re not going to be permitted to sue the government health care system…
Yeah. Putting my children in servitude for the greater good. Fuck you and your commie friends.
Rahm, go ahead and push everything you are asking for. I want the world to see you and your ilk for what you really are.
