Coverage of McCain Much More Negative Than That of Obama

Media coverage of John McCain has been heavily unfavorable since the political conventions, more than three times as negative as the portrayal of Barack Obama, a new study says.

No, really? I had really expected balanced coverage. If only someone had suggested that the fifth column’s love affair with Johnny Maverick would end as soon as he faced off against a Democrat.

This is the money shot:

While some will seize on these findings as evidence that the media are pro-Obama, the study says they actually contain “a strong suggestion that winning in politics begets winning coverage…”

I don’t know how many times I’ve come across media solons solemnly stroking their…beards and pronouncing that they are doing the best possible job of fairly and accurately reporting the news. The Project for Excellence in Journalism’s steaming cauldron of seminal fluid is more of the same.
