(CNN) – John McCain and Sarah Palin appear to have dropped the subject of Barack Obama’s connection to 1960’s radical Bill Ayers from the campaign trail, but the Arizona senator said in an interview that aired Tuesday he’ll likely bring it up at the third and final presidential debate Wednesday night.
Probably not in any effective way, though. Instead of saying what he should say - which is to ask Obama to explain why he has such close personal, political, and financial ties to an admitted terrorist, communist, and bomber, he will ask why Obama hasn’t admitted those ties in the first place - as if the issue were Obama’s reticence rather than the association itself.
McCain has already said he doesn’t care about a “washed up terrorist.”
I wonder if he would have felt the same way if he’d been aware of Ayers’ anti-American, pro-communist and North Vietnamese terrorist bombing campaign while McCain was being tortured in a Hanoi prison.
