If Obama had actually wanted to bring experience and, well, bravery to his ticket, he should have picked a different Joe - Lieberman. But then, of course, it would have been painfully obvious that the positions of the two candidates on the ticket should be reversed, and Ms. Siah couldn’t have that.
I was talking to an Asian friend today who pays almost no attention to politics. He wasn’t even aware of Obama’s brilliant pick, but when I told him who it was, the first thing he said was, “Oh, yeah. Isn’t he the plagiarist or something?”
And with all due respect to Glenn Reynolds’ giving Biden a pass on the plagiarism issue, I think this demonstrates that it’s going to continue to be a problem for him.

I do think this pick demonstrates Obama’s utter lack of any fear of a Clinton convention comeback.

If Obama isn’t afraid of Clinton he’s an even bigger fool than he appears. Of course, in picking Little Joe Biden he’s just written off all of fly-over country, so he’s a pretty big fool regardless.
Until he sees Hillary with a stake through her heart in the noon day sun, he’d be a damn fool not to fear a Clinton coup.
He may not have had much of a choice. I doubt Biden was his first pick. How many people turned him down? He may have asked Hillary and she said no, he would never admit that and she could milk it to her advantage for 2012.
Ann, that is an extremely interesting question. I’m going to hunt around for clues for an answer.
Lawyers are trained, however, never to ask a question to which they don’t already know the answer. In certain political situations that is also a byword. It’s hard to imagine Obama being so clueless as to offer the Veep slot to somebody without knowing what the reply would be.
Bill, Obama appears to be just clueless enough to do that..but I have my doubts that his handlers are that stupid.
True. The possible choices would be deniably queried to find out whether or not they would run with Obama. The question would have to be altered to: How many people were checked out as running mate and rejected because it was clear that they would turn down an offer to run?
Might not be so easy to research. How could you tell whether or not a hypothetical question to a potential candidate was part of a serious investigation or just everyday BS talk?

Well, the guy is clueless enough to think that he is qualified to be POTUS, which is a bit deranged in my opinion, so I question his judgement in just about everything else. Also, I think this site made a big joke when Biden dropped out of the primary race, something along the lines of being surprised he was still in - this is not someone who adds anything to the ticket - what percentage did he get during that time?
Anyone who picked this guy over Hillary is that stupid. The democrats could have walked away with the Presidency this year if they had nominated someone who wasn’t as lame as Obama. They nominated someone because he is black and no other reason. If this guy wasn’t so friggin scary, I would have stuck to Bill’s plan and sat out this election cause I hate McCain. So yes, they are that stupid.
You know what, Ann? I honestly don’t think Obama ever expected to get this far. I think he regarded his candidacy as a trial run, with maybe - maybe - a longshot at getting a Veep nomination.
I think he was never prepared for what happened, and still isn’t. His campaign is being run by sharks, and not the sort of sharks who would make the kinds of mistakes we are talking about.
I still think that the delusion that this person with no qualifications to speak of would win the presidency makes me question the sanity of all involved.
What about handling all the money the campaign has raised. Sharks would like that, wouldn’t they? They wouldn’t be insane to think the campaign would raise a lot of money - because it did. They’d want Obama looking good as long as possible, so they’d sure make sure that nobody who would refuse to be his running mate would get the chance to refuse it.
Anyone interested in money would have been quite sane to latch on to Obama’s campaign
