UTICA, New York - More than half of likely voters nationwide - 55% - want Republican-turned-Libertarian Bob Barr to participate in presidential debates this fall, while nearly half - 46% - said they think Ralph Nader should be allowed into the on-stage fray, the latest Zogby Interactive polling shows.
Among political independents, 69% said Barr should be at a lectern with Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama, and a majority of Republicans and Democrats agreed. Among Democrats, 52% said they think Barr should participate, while 50% of Republicans agreed.
I’d sure like to see it. We had to suffer through stages packed with has-beens, never-weres, and no-chancers all through the primaries. It would be good to have debates that included something other than Republicrat not-a-dime’s worth of difference blabber.

If they put Barr on, I will definitely be watching and listening closely -
If they include Nader, though, I’ll definitely need to have the “mute” button handy…
Nope. I don’t see why we should have ANY fringe candidate participate in the debates.
If we operate on the principle that 10% of anything is shit, what does that say about a candidate with only 1% support who skipped the primaries?
Barr is a self-serving opportunist who left the Republican Party, even though he ascribes this latest activity to being a matter of “conscience”. Uh-huh.
And all he has to do is utter a few lines from the libertarian playbook, and all the disgruntled ex-Paulites immediately proclaim him the Second Coming?
I thought you Librarians were smarter than that.
Nope. Uh huh. I don’t see why we should have any debates at all.
Let’s just let the MSM declare a winner.
Well, sure, that should disqualify him, given the non-self-serving, non-opportunism of Obama and McCain.
I never made that mistake thinking about socons.
I operate on the principle that 90% of everything is shit. It prepares you for the worst, much like expecting everything that can go wrong, will go wrong.
Increase the possible entertainment quotient, while simultaneously pissing-off the Loony Left fringe?
Care to name any currently-recognizable candidate, fringe or otherwise, who isn’t definable as a “self-serving opportunist”?
At least with Barr up there, we might get something a bit closer to an actual debate, as opposed to what is likely to take place between Tweedledee McStain and Tweedledum Obamanation - the big difference between those two appears to be that one is old enough to be the other’s grandfather, while the other is barely old enough, in political terms, to be wearing pants with pockets.
Lighten up a bit - if they’ve just gotta have debates, let’s at least make them worth watching…
