Power Line: Obama on Iraq: A Long and Winding Road
Barack Obama is a politician who doesn’t seem to care much about any of the issues. He is a pure political machine, devoted to fundraising, the media spotlight, and personal ambition. Like Bill Clinton, as someone said, without the girlfriends. Only more cold-blooded.
From the standpoint of governance, BJ was manageable - in large part because of solid GOP congressional majorities, and the work of Newt Gingrich.
Obama will probably have wider latitude for mischief. A lot will depend on how willing the surviving GOP congressmen in both houses are to oppose him.

Am I the only one who is bothered by the fact that Obama(Α-Ω) seems to have no sense of humor or self-deprecation?
still not going to vote for mccain? if not, what pain level are you ready to endure?
You’re assuming McCain can’t inflict some torturous pain himself. I’m assuming that neither can handle the economic reckoning that’s coming, but that the Republic will survive and we’ll be able to hire a damage control specialist in 2012.
Nope. He doesn’t deserve my vote. I don’t vote for shit sandwiches.
You want my vote? Earn it. I’m not voting for Obama, either, by the way. And don’t hand me any blabber about not voting for McCain equating voting for Obama. That’s the same sort of bullshit that claims atheists who don’t believe in gods are engaging in the as much an act of faith as the believers who do.
McCain is still gonna lose, Wes. Take it to the bank. And four years after he does, I think you’re going to be glad he did.
If you’re actually conservative, that is.
Some but not the same. I’m under no illusion about McCain and the economy. McCain said he would prop Greenspan up at the Fed like “Weekend at Bernies” if he had to. Fuck that. we don’t need another idiot like Greenspan and his idiotic “inflation ex inflation”.
However, if you think McCain is bad, go ahead and vote for Obama, or don’t vote and let Obama win.
You just don’t get it, do you? I think Obama is bad, so I’m not going to vote for him. I think McCain is bad, so I’m not going to vote for him.
And by not voting for politicians I don’t want to vote for, I’m not “letting” anybody win.
How the hell do you know that by not voting for Obama, I’m letting McCain win?
Jebus. No wonder the GOP has become a somewhat less malignant clone of the Democrats. The appetite of otherwise intelligent people for gobbling shit sandwiches seems unstoppable.
From a letter received from the RNC today (opening line):
“I don’t want to believe you’ve abandoned the Republican Party, but I have to ask… Have you given up?” [signed Tim Morgan]
Hmm, it got fed to the shredder, but my reply would’ve been:
“No Tim, I’ve not given up, I’ll never give up — it is you and your ilk that have given up. Please ask Al Gore to send you some money, he’s got plenty and you’re more in alignment with his ends than mine, as it is, so he should be happy to help fund your capitulation…
…but my reply would’ve been:…
Were I in your shoes I’d have sent that reply. They should at least know why they’re not going to get anything from you, whether it be your money or your vote.
Frankly Bashir, I’d be amazed if any mail without a check in it makes it past their shredder in the mail room.
That said, I think Bill has been enough of a thorn in their side that they probably already read my note :-)
Bill,
I have almost 3 years left until i can retire from the Army. I don’t want to spend the last years under a Democrat president. after i retire, i can afford to not vote just like you and given the same choice i wouldn’t vote either.
Wes, I am voting. Because there is one candidate running who, on balance, I want to support. I want to vote for him, so I am going to do so.
Almost my entire adult life I have cast my vote against candidates by choosing the lesser of two evils/shit sandwiches. I don’t see that the end result has been very good. So from now on, no more shit sandwiches - no matter how much disaster the candidates and their supporters claim will result from the victory of their opponents. I’m only voting for people I want to support, elect, and see in office.
So this year I’m voting for Bob Barr, Libertarian Party candidate for President.
