I’ve been thinking what to do with that check that the government, in its infinite wisdom, has decided to send out to us in order to stimulate the economy.
Now, I think this is a pretty stupid idea, but if Uncle Sugar insists on tossing out the cash, then I guess I’ll take it.
And then I got to thinking. Yes, I know. That’s a dangerous thing, but anyway. What if I used the money to piss off a great many people on the left by stimulating a section of the economy that they fear and loathe?
What if I purchased a firearm?
And what if I could get a whole bunch of people to do the same?
So, for your consideration: When that check comes around, why not put that money towards the purchase of firearm? Or some ammunition for your present armory?

For the amount that is being given to you a relatively well manufactured AK with a substantial amount of ammunition can be purchased. Look here. Since we live in the same state I know of no restrictions to you purchasing said firearm.
Don’t you mean, take it back? AFAIK, it was your money to begin with.
BTW, I think your idea is a hell of a good one and one that could get some legs in the blogsphere. Send a message to the regucrats en masse by voting with your rebate dollars.
Sheer genius!
Bill, maybe a dedicated web site to this notion is in order?
Sigh. Probably. But I’ve built so many damned web sites in the past couple of years - the latest fiasco being a full-blown Drupal installation for the American Conservative Party which is currently being read by maybe two dozen people - that I’m a little tired.
I’ll see if I can figure out some way to give this legs, though. It’s an excellent idea.
Hook up with Kim du Toit. He still had Buy a Gun Day, last I knew. (Which was a while ago. Considering that I don’t read his site, I sure point people here to it a lot.) Maybe it can be rescheduled to early this year.
re the ACP site, -shrug- I read it every couple of days the first couple of weeks it was out, but there wasn’t anything of interest to me. I’m not especially conservative. Strict Constitutionalist, yes, as regards the Federal government, but after that I part ways with conservatives. (I’m more a classical liberal, actually, which informs my anarchy-leaning libertarianism.)
Well, it’s a common theme already amongst us gun bloggers. I know I’m doing my part as my new AR-15 upper chambered in 6.8 Remington SPC should be here Thursday.
April 15th is Buy a Gun Day for us as well. I think more people were able to do more this year because of the muggers giving us a little something from the wallets they stole.
I’m not particularly into long guns - I have two, both for practical reasons. The trusty Remington 870 shotgun (referred to by cops as “One Shot and Rot,” and an SU-16CA for any rifle-type chores that might need performing.
But I do love the handguns, and my next is going to be a Kimber. The evil demon at my LGS (local gun shop) conned me into wrapping my hand around some Kimber model in the $1000 buck range. It was all I could do to pry my fingers off. That six-hundred-buck rebate would go a long way towards putting that thing in my hand again. That was the sweetest-holding pistol I’ve ever known. And I’m not a big 1911 fan, but this was a whole different ball game.
I think it was this one. I deliberately tried not to pay attention - I’d just spent $1200 or so on the Beretta .32 and the SU-16 and ammo, and I didn’t want to go in the hole another grand.
Sadly, Steve, even I don’t read it very regularly. They’ve been buried in religious discussions for weeks.
I just quit reading LGF cold turkey because of the commenters re: Intelligent Design. I think, but I am not certain, Charles is on my side in this, but who knows…
I decided that, much as I agree with many of their political views, I can’t abide associating with people who would so willingly emasculate science education (such as it is) in America.
Of course, the timing was right. I was looking for a reason to cut back on my daily blog reading.
DP survived the cut.
Of course. Where else can you get news and commentary on a wide range of topics, accompanied by a full day’s worth of snark? (No snark from Nemo, though; it’s beneath him.)
A.C.
No, this money is different. It didn’t come from us, it is coming from our great grandchildren. Isn’t it amazing what government can do–time travel almost.
I like the idea of buying a gun with the stimulus, I think I will buy a bolt action .22 for my granddaughters (ages 1 and 2.)
SteveF,
Why don’t you set up the Classic Liberal party, I’ll join.
Meanwhile, back at the primary topic:
I just ran this idea past the spouse, and she wholeheartedly endorsed it - that makes it unanimous and official.
Time to go shopping for that Desert Eagle .50 AE, I think…or possibly a Smith & Wesson .500…hmmm….
(We’re also due a refund on the 2007 Federal
ConfiscationIncome Tax, so there should be enough for ammo, as well.)Bill if you liked the Kimber then you will love these, a little bit pricier, I have held one and had to slap myself repeatedly to walk away from it. What really made me walk away from the purchase was the realization that I would not be the first one to shoot it, my wife would be, at me and she wouldn’t miss.
Kim du Toit designates April 15th of every year as BAG day he usually pushes it for a month before.
Bill, I’d suggest STI, but they won’t sell to you.
And I think you’d be ok with their reasoning.
As a Californian and a gunner, I am familiar with STI’s stand, and I do approve.
Folks may not realize what the liberal fascist gun grabbers have done and are still doing to Kalifornia citizens.
For instance, check this list of “permitted” weapons. If your gun isn’t on that list, or you want to buy a gun not on that list, fuggedaboutit.
They won’t stop until they ban firearms completely. That’s why our only hope in the long run is a strictly interpreted, incorporated Second Amendment, so we can fight back on a much stronger legal footing of violation of our constitutional rights.
After CA banned .50BMG, Ronnie Barrett (basically) informed CA LEOs that if they wanted their Barrett .50s repaired, they could ship them to Sacramento.
Heh.
Toren, Ronnie just sent the same letter to the jackass Chief of Police of Honolulu - “ban my rifle, and get your LEO’s .50s fixed somewhere else - you and the rest of your entire state.”
