My Way News - William F. Buckley Jr. Dies at 82
More than Barry Goldwater, more than Ronald Reagan, more than any other single man, WFB was the father of modern American conservatism.
UPDATE: Much more here.
UPDATE: When I went off to boarding school, my mother packed Buckley’s “God and Man at Yale” in my trunk, unbeknownst to me. It wasn’t really my cup of tea, but I read it because she wanted me to. It didn’t take right away, but eventually at least parts of it did.
In my day, WFB was a frequent visitor to my school. Nemo probably has more personal memories of Bill Buckley at the Hill School than I do.

I was reading National Review and watching Firing Line since my adolescence in the 1970s. Buckley’s wife died less than a year ago, and I thought I heard him make a statement in favor of medicinal m a r i j u a n a recently. I wonder if he chose this moment to go, as the ultimate metaphor for John McCain’s nomination.
This is more or less irrelevant, but as I read his obit, I kept on trying to think of any liberal whose range of activities, interests, intellect and expertise could compare to Buckley’s.
Some of the younger generation don’t seem to realize Buckley’s importance. I tried to explain that here.
Excellent post, OG.
