Hmm. I’m arguably a half-wit, so that doesn’t bode well for my wisdom, either.
Cheer up Steve, just remember in the world of the witless the half-wit is king. Or something like that.
Don’t worry. You can join me in the Witless Protection Program.
Well, I’m not any sort of liberal (reactionary fiscal conservative might be a better description) but the simple fact of the matter is that anybody who pays FICA tax is overpaying into the system. So I guess I don’t begrudge them getting some of that money back.
OTOH, it looks as if I won’t be getting this rebate as I fall above the line. Now that pisses me off in ways that I won’t bother to enumerate here.
You are not the first person to call the Bush Family Marxists. Not by years!
But as time goes on they do seem to be closer to Marx than Adam Smith - by a long shot. What seemed to be an extreme remark years ago now does not seem to be out of place. Too bad for the GOP!@#?!
This is nothing more than income redistribution.
Screw it. I’m voting against all incumbents.
Throw the bastards out.
I’ll even vote for a Democrat against a Republican incumbent.
The Bush family aren’t Marxists, not by a long shot. Their belief in expensive charitable works with everyone else’s money is of the same quality as that of Elizabeth I.
To try to make everyone a little better about this, just think about it this way. Everyone that has to file a tax return has money taken from their pay check to the goverment throughout the year. So basically, you are giving the government a interest free loan. If you are good at it, you try to either break even or pay a little when you file a return. Most low income people do not even try to do this so their refund check is large. So just think that everyone is now getting the interest on the loan back from the governement.
Garf - Please do a quick calculation for me. What is the annual interest on $0.00, because that is what many of the people getting this rebate paid in income taxes. What you should have said is think of this as low-income people getting the interest on higher-income people’s taxes.
The Taxes link doesn’t work for me.
REL - Low income people do have taxes withheld from their paychecks, they just get it all back when they file their returns.
Garf - I’m willing to admit that low-income people have some amounts withheld from their paychecks, but nowhere near the amount that it would require to generate $600 in interest on nearly risk-free accounts. I do not understand why you want to put a positive spin on income redistribution. If you are in favor of income redistribution, just come out and say it, but don’t try to make me feel better about the government taking my money and giving it to people that don’t deserve it.
Not saying I was for it. Just saying that the Democrats would never have let a rebate pass without it, so might as well try to feel better about it. If you are getting money back then just feel good to get something back. If you make over the limit, then it pretty much sucks for you. Write to the Democrats & Republicans to cut spending and give you a tax break. Especially the Republicans, they should already be trying to do this but they are not.
