Computer Learns Dogspeak: Programs Can Classify Dog Barks Better Than Humans, Study Shows
ScienceDaily (Jan. 19, 2008) — Computer programs may be the most accurate tool for studying acoustic communications amongst animals, according to Csaba Molnár from Eötvös Loránd University in Hungary and his research team. Their research shows that a new piece of software is able to classify dog barks according to different situations and even identify barks from individual dogs, a task humans find challenging.
A voice recognition system for dogs! I want one.

Me too. Sounds like this would let me know if they’re barking at a squirrel or a person, then I’d know if I had to go look or just curse them out for barking at 3am.
I can generally tell what my pooches are barking at by the way they bark..I think most people who are in tune with their dawgs can do that…well, maybe not. Some pooches are just yip yips that bark at everything that moves with the same yip yip bark
I have found that I can tell when a “pit” wants to play or is serious. A high pitched bark says “come play”, a lower pitch says “I’m watching you” and a lower, harsher bark says ” I’m going to rip you to shreds”. The sound proofing cuts out a lot of the nuances in the barks making it harder to tell which kind it is.
