Amid the horror, a glimmer of good news: The culture of self-defense may have saved untold lives.
Sadly, apparently four people were murdered before this good woman could kill the shooter with her own firearm.
But that is better than reading that twenty or thirty or more were slaughtered like sheep in a pen, protected only by “No Gun Zone” signs.

I will no longer spend my money at establishments that post these signs. I would sooner patronize places that want my business.
I take a different approach: When I carry - and I sometimes do, now - if there’s a posted sign and I have an alternative, I go there. If there’s no convenient alternative - and if it’s a place of public accommodation/business - I keep the piece right where it belongs, concealed on me, and go in anyway.
I figure, worst that can happen - if they, somehow, determine that I’m carrying - is that they ask me to leave. If that happens, and they’re nice about it, I will go - though not before making it quite clear that I won’t be back, nor will anyone else over whom I have any influence.
If they get pushy, there’s going to be a scene - and it will be loud - after which I will depart as above.
As I am a State-licensed carrier of weaponry, specifically for the purpose of self-defense, no place other than State and Federal properties has the authority to prevent my exercise of that license, however much they may have or express the desire to do so.
And no, I do not care about their opinions on public safety, however well-reasoned they may think they are…
