How weirdly appropriate that in the week some poor old English teacher is jailed in Sudan for letting her little urchins name a teddy bear ‘Mohammed’, some mouth-breathing yahoos from the outer wasteland bible belt of south-western Sydney decided to express their faith with a couple of pigs heads on sticks.
Yes, of course. A couple of folks waving pig heads around as a form of vividly expressed opinion is exactly the same as a theocratic tyranny whose laws permit that a woman be lashed into bloody ribbons or even killed for the “crime” of “offending Islam.”
Birmingham is a terribly misguided. He doesn’t get that the difference between civilization and, well, sharia, is that the two pig-wavers are free to express opinions in civilized cultures, and are murdered by the theocratic state in barbaric cultures.
And those who attempt to establish equivalence between the protesters freely expressing opinion and the state murdering people for expressing opinion are, well, not very bright. Or are pushing an agenda a bit too large to ignore. (via Glenn Reynolds).
