Thompson manages to pound Huckabee into a fine powder without ever coming across as harsh or even particularly angry. It’s as solid an appearance as I’ve seen Thompson deliver since the official announcement that he’s running.

Takeaway: Don’t mess with the Fred.

    Take a look at what the GOP-shill Hugh Hewitt is saying these days about Thompson:

    Every vote for Huckabee or Thompson is a very real vote for Giuliani.

    He says that, of course, because he’s flogging Romney’s candidacy while simultaneously declaring the GOP race to be a two man race. Neither of those two is Fred, by the way.

    If Fred wins the nomination, look for lots of comments like “the heretofore unrealized dynamic that took everyone by surprise”. Everyone who’s not an insider hack, that is.
