The Corner on National Review Online
ARLINGTON, VA — U.S. Senator John McCain made the following statement today:
Senator Clinton said that believing General Petraeus’ testimony requires a ‘willing suspension of disbelief.’ I think it willingly suspends disbelief to not repudiate an advertisement run by a radical left wing organization that impugns and dishonors the integrity of a man who has served his nation with dedication all of his life. If you’re not tough enough to repudiate a scurrilous, outrageous attack such as that, then I don’t know how you’re tough enough to be President of the United States.
I wouldn’t vote for McCain on a bet, but I have to give credit where credit is due. This statement works on so many different levels it’s hard to fault it.
1. Whether you like it or not, there is a sizeable segment of the voting public who question whether any woman, even Hillary, is “tough” enough to be President. Oh, sure, Maggie Thatcher, blah, blah, blah, but we’re talking the most powerful nation in the world here. Facing down Iran, China, and Russia is a bit different than facing down some South American country most folks can’t even find on a map.
2. It drives a wedge between Hillary and one of her biggest supporting and financing organizations - MoveSorosOn.Org.
3. It reinforces the notion that Hillary really is an anti-military lefty.
4. It reinforces the notion that she isn’t tough enough to stand up to Islamofascism, but will cut and run.
5. It questions her credentials as a bonafide warrior in the War on Terror.
6. It marks her as a smear artist of the first rank, throwing mud at a war hero.
All in all, an excellent job!

Funny that we were told that W wouldn’t “listen to the generals,” when those generals Wesley Clark and Shinseki (spelling most likely botched). Know it’s to be expected, but couldn’t help pointing it out.
That’s what it takes for her to believe Bill when he denies having sex with everything in a skirt.
The Republicans are reinforcing each other’s messages, while the Democrats are clawing each other drawing blood. What a fantastic field!
Thatcher did manage (with help from Reagan) to face down Russia, and at a time when Russia was the other side of the Cold War: “Don’t go wobbly, Mr President”. So give her credit for that.
I do however agree that Thatcher could have done more to stand up to China and Iran.
David, I admire Thatcher almost without limit. I was trying to mimic the approach of that group who would question a woman’s toughness in general.
Anybody who thinks women aren’t tough ought to get pregnant and deliver a baby. If men had to do that, the human race would have vanished a million years ago.
A guy once asked a woman what was so difficult about having a baby. She replied, “Oh, it’s not so bad. Just imagine how you would feel if you had to pass a bowling ball out through the end of your penis.”
