Romney Adviser Linked to Anti-Thompson Internet Site - washingtonpost.com
A top adviser to former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney appears to be behind the launch of a new Web site attacking GOP presidential rival Fred D. Thompson during his first week on the trail.
The site, PhoneyFred.org, painted an unflattering picture of Thompson, dubbing the former TV star and senator Fancy Fred, Five O’clock Fred, Flip-Flop Fred, McCain Fred, Moron Fred, Playboy Fred, Pro-Choice Fred, Son-of-a-Fred and Trial Lawyer Fred. Shortly after a Washington Post reporter made inquiries about the site to the Romney campaign, it was taken down.
Do you think somebody dumb enough to pull a stunt like this is smart enough to be President?
Well, Jimmy Carter pretty much lowered the bar all the way to the bottom for presidential intelligence, so just make that: Do you want somebody like this in charge?

Good grief, they misspelled “phony,” too?
Presidential timber no doubt, Deon.
On the other hand, I like the implications of his having used “McCain” as an epithet.
Well, I’m feeling charitable today (as long as there’s no money involved), so I’m not going to assume Mitt even knew about, much less was involved in this.
However, since Presidents must rely on a core of advisors, the choice of this particular top advisor doesn’t say much for Romney’s ability as a judge of character.
Given what I know about how prexy campaigns operate, and given that this was a top adviser responsible, I think your assumption is pretty far fetched, Lorenzo. I doubt he was involved, in the sense that he helped write the html or whatever, but I’m pretty sure he would have been made aware, no matter what his denials, that one of his top media people was launching a new net-based attack on a dangerous opponent.
