(CBS) LOS ANGELES Elvira Arrellano, a Mexican woman who sought sanctuary from deportation in a Chicago church was arrested Sunday in Los Angeles.
A spokesperson from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency would not confirm Arrellano was taken in by ICE agents on Olvera Street, near La Placita Church, in the Los Angeles Civic Center area at about 3 p.m.
Arellano and her son Saul, 8, who is a U.S. citizen, were in Los Angeles seeking immigration reform and were staying at La Placita Church.
She visited three area churches to speak about immigration, but was arrested before she could go to a fourth church.
My gut feeling is that this is merely more Bush immigration kabuki, to provide cover for a GOP that, left to its own desires, would have passed an open borders-amnesty bill in a heartbeat.
Arrest one open illegal alien “activist,” complain how hard it is to build seventy miles of single-strand chain link fence, ad infinitum, ad nauseum.

Immigration agents deported to Tijuana an illegal immigrant who took refuge in a Chicago church, the church’s pastor, the Rev. Walter Coleman, told The Associated Press late Sunday.

I could never understand why the cops didn’t walk into the church and arrest her. Does that city have a law against arresting people who hide out in a church building?
Maybe. Who knows? But municipal laws don’t trump federal laws.

Call me heartless. I DON’T CARE how many brats she has. She is using resources that are needed by people here legally. They have their own kids to take care of. People like her take jobs needed by those here legally. We can not support the words scofflaws.

No, she was a criminal first. She entered this country illegally in 1997 - her first criminal act. She defied deportation in the same year, her second criminal act. So she was twice a criminal two years before she became a mother.
She has broken several other laws along the way, and today, she is still a criminal.
You might think of her as a professional, habitual criminal who happens to have a child. Often in cases where a mother is judged an habitual criminal, the courts remove children from their custody.

Forget for a moment that this woman was here illegally. She claims that her kid needs Ritalin and wants someone else to pay for it. Is this really the kind of immigrants we want? I think we are full up on self-centered, gimme-gimme, teat suckers.
Actually, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson fill our quota all by themselves. How we have room for more is beyond imagining.
