Fjordman explains why he thinks the state and media have combined to form a new, anti-democratic political class. Here’s one of its successes:
In June 2004, a survey showed that 50% of all Swedes wanted a more restrictive immigration policy. Mass immigration reached the highest levels in history in 2006, yet before the general elections that year, all the major parties and the media cooperated successfully on keeping a lid on the issue. During the past few elections in Sweden , there has been virtually no public debate about mass immigration, but a passionate debate about “gender equality” in which almost all contestants call themselves feminists, and only argue over which ways to implement absolute equality between the sexes.
The more suffocating the censorship becomes regarding the problems created by Muslims, the more discussion there is of ways to get rid of the straitjackets of heterosexuality. This is clearly done in order to give the citizens the sense of living in an open, free and tolerant society. Diversity of sex is used as a substitute for diversity of political opinions.
Coercion in Europe has gone far beyond branding dissenters as fascist and racist. During the past few years, Europe’s great leftist alliance has raised the stakes by harassing, prosecuting and murdering opponents. Fjordman thinks Dutch society especially has capitulated to the pigs in the farmhouse, and I wonder if the citizens of any western European nation will rise up to emulate the Danes in their (albeit incomplete) effort to push back against the forces of national and cultural suicide.
Perhaps Europe’s reformers, few though they may be, will draw courage and inspiration from American conservatives’ recent successes in shutting down the Miers betrayal and open borders/amnesty. They better start soon, though, or there won’t be anything left to conserve.
Or maybe the clock will run out. A few years ago a French general said, “In ten years we will be fighting in the streets of France” against an Islamist sub-state and its enfranchised criminal class. If that arrives, European governments will face not conservative reformers but fascist guerilla movements. The least-likely outcome, I think, is that the EU juggernaut will roll relentlessly onward to reach a peaceful totalitarianism of the progressivist elite. Instead they will get war, from all sides, aggravated by foreign interference.

I was in Ireland the summer that Fortuyn was assassinated by an ‘animal rights’ extremist. The laughs and jeers that I heard - to the effect that Fortuyn got what he deserved - only strengthened what I imagined FDR would have envisioned at such news: that one day European utopian fantasies will mutate in one great enantiodromia, and “European governments will face not conservative reformers but fascist guerilla movements.” Exactly. Ever since that day I’ve been certain of it.
I’m an optimist. I don’t think radical Islam is strong enough to stand in the face of European reason backed by statism. As ossifying as their leftist institutions are, they provide a measure of stability.
Listen to the complaints, and Islamic immigrants want handouts and special treatment, not the reins of power. They’ve been seduced by socialism and explained away by multiculturalism. France may have constant car-burnings, but deaths are rare.
Don’t count out the birthplace of Western Civ yet. As Europe Islamifies, Islam will Eurify.
Europe will just the see the increase of politicians like MP Galloway, who thinks nothing of selling out his country to filthy immigrants bent on destroying it.

The mass of immigrants may be for a time satisfied with handouts and privileges. Their leaders, however, want power and know how to inflame and mobilize their adherents forcibly to seize it.
Any serious pushback from the native Europeans will cause resentment among the masses and make it easier for the mullahs to whoop them into violence. The present European governments have shown no ability to respond to violent upheaval with anything but capitulation and appeasement.
I wouldn’t bet on Europe surviving in anything like its present form, but I hope I’m wrong.
Europe will not survive in its present form, nor after the first Shoah and its attempts to help the Islamofascists create a second and final one, does it even deserve to.
As others have pointed out in the blogosphere, the Euros wiped out 6 million productive, law-abiding Jews, and imported 20 million violent, non-assimilating Muslims.
Europe has the semites it deserves. I hope this does go to a civil war that utterly destroys both sides.

TallDave - you’re a smart guy and I appreciate your optimism, but what I see in Muslim countries like Indonesia, Pakistan, Egypt and Turkey is not heartening. Combine that with the “separatist insurgencies” in places like Thailand & the Philippines, and the playbook doesn’t read “assimilation = success”. Look at the Undercover Mosque series from the UK that Charles Johnson profiled, and reflect on the fact that in the face of this radicalism in their midst - the Gov’t decided to harrass and investigate the filmmakers. Not good, my friend.
