Michelle Malkin » Sen. Sam Switchback: Desperate, nasty, and running out of time
But the GOP political cafeteria’s getting splattered as well. Squirting ketchup at the heads of his first-tier rivals: Sam “Switchback” Brownback, who is still clinging to his doomed 2008 GOP presidential campaign.
I’ve already said I don’t intend to sit out this campaign. I will eagerly vote for and support Fred Thompson. I will go to the polls and vote for either Romney or Giuliani, although not eagerly. I would vote for Tancredo or Hunter.
The only way the GOP could lose my vote next year is to nominate McCain (I will never vote for him) Sam “Switchback” Brownback (we don’t need another lying RINO trimmer) or Ron Paul (whose heart is mostly in the right place, but whose brain, when it comes to national defense, is apparently in his most lunatic supporters’ back pockets.
Luckily, I think the chances of any of the last three achieving the nomination are remote. The race would be more interesting if they left it, and Fred entered it. Which, I am confident, will occur in due time.

From what I understand (as posted on ronpaulforums.com) it appears the Michelle Malkin faction is pretty upset with ol’ Freddy. Seems he was part of keeping some immigration measures from being put into place… nuh noh!

You’re going to need something stronger than guilt-by-association….
The interest in Thompson on this website certainly has made me interested in him. But his recent selection of Abraham which Debbie Schlussel has highlighted here has made me put him much lower on my short list.
Does anyone else have an opinion?
Joe, some folks connected with the Thompson campaign are taking the line that Schlussel has a long-standing feud with Abraham, and is merely trying to heat it up for her own PR purposes.
That explanation seems a bit lame to me, but I am going to look into Abraham’s connections with Arab special interests to see how much weight to give to Schlussel’s charges. These same sources say that Schlussel has blown Abraham’s Arab connections way out of proportion to make a better story.
That said, D.C. is awash in Arab money. Everybody from GWB on down is on the Saudi tab. “Everybody does it” isn’t a terribly good reason for anything, but I rather suspect that Thopson’s lobbying firm has also received Arab money. They all have.
I do think that if Abraham starts to look like a huge liability, he will quietly (or not) disappear. I am also willing to cut Thompson a fair amount of slack on early staffing decisions. His natural tendency, especially under full assault from both the MSM and the left, would be to reach out to those who have been close to him in the past.
Finally, in Thompson’s case, I’m not going to let the perfect be the enemy of the good. I’ll follow up on this later.
