Al Gore’s son busted for drugs in hybrid car
Wed Jul 4, 2007 1:19PM EDTLOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The 24-year-old son of former Vice President Al Gore was arrested for drug possession on Wednesday after he was stopped for allegedly speeding in his hybrid Toyota Prius, a sheriff’s official said.
Al Gore III — whose father is a leading advocate of policies to fight global warming — was driving his environmentally friendly car at about 100 miles per hour on a freeway south of Los Angeles when he was pulled over by an Orange County sheriff’s deputy at about 2:15 a.m..
A subsequent search yielded a small amount of marijuana, along with prescription drugs including Valium, Xanax, Vicodin and Adderall, said sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino. There were no prescriptions found, he said.
(my emphasis)
“(…)was driving his environmentally friendly car at about 100 miles per hour(…)”
I’m trying to figure out whether Reuters is being ironic or trying desperately to make the best of a really bad bit of PR for Al Gore just a few days before his global revival meeting concert extravaganza.
As far as Preacher Al is concerned? I dunno. Getting one’s own house in order crosses the mind.

But hasn’t the preacher already bought his indulgences from Pope Green?
On the other hand, how many of you carry your prescriptions around with you? I don’t even have any hardcopy prescriptions for my blood pressure and cholesterol meds. They’re phoned in to the pharmacies by my doctors. I never see them.
The kid’s had a troubled past. Who wouldn’t, with Big Honest Al as a dad? The pot doesn’t even rise to the level of a misdemeanor, and the meds sound like something a psychiatrist would prescribe a “troubled youth.”
He’ll get hit on the speeding ticket, is my guess. But do you think daddy and his friends, especially the ones with cop drivers, pay any attention to traffic laws and speed limits? We know they don’t. Like father, like son, maybe?
Ah, Al Gore III. Wasn’t he caught drunk driving during the 2000 campaign, while he was underage? I always point to the press treatment of his underage drunk driving versus the Bush twins underage drinking as definitive proof of blah blah blah.
Sigh, even I am tired of pointing those things out.

I enjoyed the stories about the Bush twins doing regular college student stuff, regular kids is the way I saw it, and still do.
As far as I recall they were sneaking into regular rathskeller type student hang-outs and getting served drinks that college people of their age were served legally until the nanny-state proponents got their way and raised the age back up.
That said, whatever AGIII does today should have no bad reflection on AGII, III is an adult now. Besides, AGII is enough of buffoon on his own, so no need to visit the sins of the son upon him.
What it is is a reflection on the culture AGIII grew up in - the hereditary entitlement aristocracy of the US government - grandfather a Senator, father a Senator and a Vice President, and so on. Rather like George W. Bush, come to think on it. GWB was honking Bolivian marching powder - and driving drunk - at a considerably older age than young AGIII is now.
It comes with that particular territory, I think. Aristocrats have always behaved that way.
